Diatonic accordeonist David Munnelly was always fascinated by Irish music from the twenties. This is very apparent on this album, the first he ever released. It has now been re-released with a new cover and a bonus-videotrack. David is accompanied by the musicians that would later form his regular band, one of the guests is Sharon Shannon.
Head-down-no-nonsense music form the Mayo accordeonist a.k.a. 'The Bullet from Belmullet', hugely redolent of the sound of old Irish-American 78s and none the worse for that.
'The music is both melodic and bright, with lots of room to imagine dancers having a good time, but with enough story in the notes to make listening alone work well, also.' (Dirty Linen)
'Munnelly and his band perform rollicking Irish/American dance hall music reminiscent of the roaring '20s. (...) I dare you to keep your feet still, and you'll be hard-pressed to avoid rolling up the carpet and joining in on the festivities.' (Sing Out! #53)
